Custom Mowing Programs
When it comes to the cutting and trimming of your grass, our mowing professionals will keep your lawn looking its best. With each mowing visit we guarantee nice straight lines, neatly trimmed edges, no clippings left on hard surfaces, sharp blades on our mowers, and a friendly staff. Proper mowing is an essential element to a beautiful and healthy lawn. Knowing how high to cut and how often to cut can vary greatly with different kinds of grass and different growing environments. Natural Lawn Fertilizer & Weed Control We believe that for a lawn to look healthy it needs to be healthy. Our approach to fertilizing is to build the soil and not just provide immediate food for the plants. Use of natural products is the only way to build up the soil and enable it to do its job. Use of synthetic fertilizers does just the opposite, in fact, using synthetic fertilizers over the long-run can destroy the soil structure and make your lawn very dependent on the chemicals being applied. If you want a sustainable, healthy, kid and pet safe, lush lawn, you need to consider natural fertilizing for your lawn. -Synthetic Fertilizers and our Waterways With the chemical approach to lawn fertilizing much the nitrates applied to your lawn are leeched out of the soil and into the ground water. It is excess nitrates in our rivers and lakes that enable algae to flourish and make our water ways unpleasant. Natural products are broken down slowly by the microbial life in the soil and stay in the soil where they belong. -Kids and Pets Aside from the many biologic benefits to your lawn, natural fertilizing is pet safe and mother approved. Did you know that the EPA has indicated that 95 percent of commonly used lawn care chemicals are known or probable carcinogens? A safe lawn is a better lawn. -Savings Over the Long-run A naturally treated lawn will require less and less services over time. As the soil is built up with natural products it will regain its ability to produce its own food and do what it was designed to do. As you may have noticed, synthetic chemical treatments require more and more chemicals to keep a lawn looking good. What's the catch with natural fertilizing? On average having a natural lawn care program costs about $10 more per application, that means at the end of season you will spend an extra $40-$50. Keep in mind that you will be requiring less and less service as you go. Your kids, your neighbors, your soil, and your pets will certainly be glad you chose us. Tree and Shrub Care Your trees and shrubs are the most valuable natural asset to your landscape. Making sure they are properly cared for is very important. -Trimming and shaping Proper trimming and shaping is something that is best to have done on a regular basis. Young trees especially need to be shaped to ensure that they will grow in a uniform manner, and to reduce weak branches and rubbing. Shrubs generally need to be trimmed once or twice annually. Spirea, yews, lilacs, potentilla and dogwoods are among the species that need more frequent attention. -Pest and disease treatment Aside from powerful winds, pest and diseases are the biggest enemy of your trees. The most common pests we've dealt with recently here in the Chippewa Vally include Japanese Beetle, Pine Sawfly, Bronze Birch Borer, Emerald Ash Borers and assorted Aphids. Keep in mind that by the time the untrained eye recognizes a disease or pest invasion on trees or shrubs it is usually too late, the damage is probably already done. Contact us if you would like to be put on schedule for regular tree checkups. We will make sure your trees stay out of harm's way. Spring and fall cleanup In the spring, it is important to get your lawn off to a good start. Removing leaves and excess thatch will help your lawn get the air and nutrients it needs to thrive. Here in the mid-west we are blessed to have many beautiful trees. However, these large beautiful trees that we all love have a LOT of leaves. If you've had to clean them up, you know what a chore that can be. At PLS we have the proper equipment and man power to cleanup leaves of any amount. Give us a call we'll take care of your leaves. Core aeration Arguably one of the most beneficial things you can do for you lawn is to have it core aerated. This process removes small plugs from the lawn (~ 1/2"W and 2"L) and sets them on the lawn. These thousands of tiny openings in your lawn serve many purposes, such as:
Overseeding Overseeding is one of the more important things you can do for your lawn, yet few homeowners ever do it.If my grass looks pretty good right now then why bother overseeding? The answer is grass plants do die over time. After five or six years, grass plants will slow down their reproduction rates; they get tired just like we do as we age. Thin grass invites weeds. Overseeding compensates for that natural slow down of the turf's reproduction. There are two major benefits to overseeding every five or six years. First, you insure your lawn stays thick and dense, or if it has thinned, you will make it thick again. Thick grass has few if any weeds if it is mowed over 2 inches tall. Kill two birds with one stone by getting your aeration and overseeding done at the same time. It is cost effective and yields beautiful, lush lawns. -Blowout in the fall and start up in the spring Here in Wisconsin it is absolutely essential to have your irrigation system properly blown out before the frost sets in. Failure to do so will cause water lines to burst and can be very expensive to repair. Call today to get on our schedule so you know it will get done. Also, having your system checked in the spring is very important too. Damage from snow removal can be corrected and proper adjustment of your system can be done at this time.
